Whistlestop Arts is absolutely thrilled to announce the launch of four exciting Virtual Day Trips, showcasing the vibrant communities across six Boroughs in Surrey. Thanks to the generous funding from Arts Partnership Surrey, the organisation is proud to share the unique stories of the 41 incredible individuals they met along the way who are connected to these amazing places.
The new films feature a diverse range of locations, including The Rural Life Living Museum, The Sculpture Park in Waverley, Chertsey Museum, St Ann’s Hill in Runnymede, Surrey Heath Museum in Camberley, and many more wonderful sites like Brookwood Cemetery, The Lightbox, Surrey History Centre, and the Shah Jahan Mosque in Woking. In addition to these locations, there are outdoor spaces to explore and crafts to get involved with. Each film not only highlights these stunning places but also features the voices and stories of the staff and volunteers who passionately share their skills and enthusiasm for their local heritage.

Annalees Lim, co-director of Whistlestop Arts, shared her enthusiasm, saying, “These Virtual Day Trips are an incredible opportunity to connect with our community and celebrate the rich cultural tapestry of Surrey. We’re excited for everyone to join in the adventure.”
Luna Russell, also a co-director, added, “Our hope is that these films spark conversations and create a sense of belonging, reminding us of the amazing people and their fascinating stories that enrich our local heritage.”
This initiative aims to foster a greater sense of connection and pride within communities, bringing people together, even from the comfort of their homes. Since its inception, Whistlestop Arts has created nine Virtual Day Trips and sincerely hopes that residential care homes and community groups will utilise these FREE resources to enrich their activities and engage participants. The immersive experiences are designed to boost confidence and ignite conversations.

Participants can explore film clips, podcasts, and craft activities that can be enjoyed from anywhere. For those responsible for organising activities at a day centre, care home, or similar facility, the full-length films come with on-screen instructions for seamless participation. Plus, they work wonderfully with accompanying resource packs, making them ideal for group settings.
All resources are completely FREE, thanks to the amazing funders and supporters. For more information, please visit the CONTACT page on the Whistlestop Arts website or email whistlestoparts@gmail.com.
